Linked in Pink draws over 200 women

When it comes to breast cancer, we're all Linked in Pink

There was much more than fun, games and food being enjoyed by the over 200 women who attended Minnesota Valley Health Center's (MVHC) annual Linked in Pink breast cancer awareness event on Oct. 10th. There was life-saving information as well.

The ABCs of Breast Cancer Early Detection were shared with attendees and they were encouraged to create personalized action plans. A: Have regular mammograms. B: Have your personal physician perform an annual breast exam. C: Be familiar with your breasts and do monthly self-exams.

One of the most rewarding moments of the evening happened when a woman newly diagnosed with breast cancer was able to connect face-to-face with representatives of the American Cancer Society. Regional and local volunteers were on hand ready to embrace her and offer assistance and resources.

"That's what Linked in Pink is all about," noted Sherry Lowe, MVHC Marketing Coordinator. "It's about education and empowerment."

Breast cancer prevention and education materials are available free of charge and are on display in the MVHC lobby.
