National Rural Health Day is November 20th

November 20, 2014

Today is National Rural Health Day.  Nearly 62 million people in the U.S. live in rural communities, so rural health centers are a vital part of daily life in America.  Rural health centers face many challenges including limited healthcare providers, the increasing aging population with unique healthcare needs, and the changes in healthcare insurance.  Now more than ever, it is important to celebrate our rural healthcare centers and raise awareness for the difficulties faced by these organizations.

At Minnesota Valley Health Center, since the beginning of 2013:

•163 residents have been served in the MVHC Nursing Home
•Over 6,000 hours of rehab therapies provided (physical, occupational, and speech therapies)
•Nearly 2,000 meals served through the MVHC Meals on Wheels program
•Over 16,000 visits through the MVHC radiology services (CT, MRI, mammogram, lab, general X-ray), lab services, and outpatient specialty clinics (including cardiology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, podiatry, and ENT)
•Nearly 2,000 patient visits in the MVHC 24/7 emergency room
•Over 13,000 hours of care provided through the MVHC swing bed and inpatient services
